Penang, Malaysia (March 12)

We arrive in Penang mid-morning, docking at the Swettenham Pier.  It, and the surrounding area, had undergone a bit of a facelift since our last visit.
Having been here before, we did not feel the need to join an organized tour. Instead, we ambled out to the street and, after some haggling, got into a rickshaw to see some sites of our choosing.  Our seat was a snug fit.
Our first stop was the Baba Nyonya Museum (aka Chung Keng Kooi Mansion).
Looking out an upstairs window, we saw our rickshaw driver had found a shady spot to wait for us.
We continued on the Chew Jetty, a settlement of wooden houses on stilts.
Next, we were pedaled to Khoo Kongsi, a truly impressive clan house.

Our last stop was St. George's Church.  It was a shorter stop than expected because the church was closed for restoration.
We returned to the ship, riding along the waterfront.  At the pier I paid our driver.  His broad toothless smile suggested that I had not haggled the fare shrewdly or he had not expected a tip.
